Oklahoma

Oklahoma does not mandate sex education, but it does mandate HIV/AIDS education.

If sex education is provided, it must:

  • Stress abstinence

HIV/AIDS education must:

  • Cover abstinence
  • Include information about condoms
  • Be limited to the discussion of the disease AIDS and its spread and prevention
  • Be taught once during grade 5 or 6, once during grades 7-9, and once during grades 10-12.
  • Assure that all curricula and materials be checked for medical accuracy by the Oklahoma Department of Health
  • Only include factual medical information for AIDS prevention

Parents must receive notice of both sex and HIV/AIDS education and may opt out of both.
